It's not just your gh trader... it's across the game at all traders. And nobody is going to buy above the price you can buy them at the trader, so I wouldn't recommend your proposed strategy, no.

I doubt that. Particularly when/if the rare matls trader is sold out. They could sell for 250-300g each or more. If my maths are right, they cost ~80g each to make...

Not a valid argument to say, "Vendor is selling for 260g, so I'm not going to pay more than that (even though vendor has none to sell)!"

Bolded for emphasis. The case is that the trader isn't sold out. Of course you can buy a whole lot and hope the trader runs out so you can sell them at a profit, but I wouldn't recommend it. Of course my argument that nobody would buy at a higher price than the trader is based on the fact that the trader has not run out. Also, I don't think the trader will run out, seeing as many people are converting as much dust as possible into vials and selling them to the trader for a profit. But time will tell. All I'm saying is I wouldn't recommend the strategy. They're down to 230 each from 270 earlier thanks to all the people selling to the trader, so I think it's safe to say the trader won't run out soon.

I also find it hard to believe that there will be a strong demand this week when its so easy to just trade in some dust and for really cheap.

I traded in 6 stacks of dust about an hour ago and the price was fluctuating from 170 down to 150, but if you just wait a few minutes it goes right back up to 170. Which tells me people are buying in hopes of a profit.

Meh, I took 5 stacks of dust from my chest (collected from farming raptors and skeles), 5k and crafted a stack of vials. Used 25 I needed personally for Nick and sold the rest to the trader @ 170g/ea, 33.25k profit when all is said and done and no need to wait around to try and sell to other players. Quick,easy, done for another week, back to regular play.

Edit: I actually saw some WTS Vials 150g/ea, if a person had patience you could buy from them, sell to merch and still make profit (if you could do it in bulk) LOL
